A coordinated statewide data governance program is critical to fulfilling the demand for high-quality education, health, and workforce. Governance refers to the structure, policies, and procedures of how data are collected, stored, transferred, and used and to ensure the availability, usability, quality, and security of the data.
The RI SLDS Governance Board was first convened in 2019 with representation from Contributing Agencies and the Governor’s Office. The Board replaces the former DataHUB Advisory Council.
DataSpark engages regularly with data stewards from data-contributing partners. A strong collaboration between data stewards and DataSpark staff ensures that data are clean, that changes or additions are well-understood, and that knowledge about underlying programs and policies is incorporated. These collaborations are essential to ensuring that the data are accurate, allowing staff and researchers to use the data with confidence.
